The Bavorier Family has a long history of glass making in Murano Italy, as far back as the 14th century. Glass making was passed father to son. Perhaps the greatest of these was Ercole Barovier (b Murano, 1889; d Venice, 1974) a noteworthy designer, he joined with with the brothers Artemio Toso and Decio Toso, to established Barovier & Toso. He was an innovator and work toward developing the primavera glass, that is highly treasured today.
The Christies Glossary defines Primavera Glass as:
"Glass with a crackled translucent body created by dipping the glass in a specific chemical that produces a delicate netting and random air bubble effect; the glass is then decorated with bold black applications." He also developed grafitto a way of forming glass on a transparent base with swags of opaque color and air bubbles sometimes with gold inclusions.
